New Artwork- Faces

faces-mixed media artwork

Faces, mixed media on handmade paper, 14x21cm

I’m not quite sure where I was going with this- probably more of a warm up piece if anything. As you can see, I’m quite excited that next month is October.

Playing with Packaging- Small Mixed Media Sculpture

Another Playing with Packaging piece- a small mixed media sculpture.

I hate throwing away interesting/nice looking packaging so I try to use it in some way. This is made from two cardboard boxes and one plastic container from Lily Lolo.

This piece includes layers of paint, ink, vintage imagery, flat back pearls, thread and cut text.

Illustration Friday- Beard

IFbeards
Idiot
, watercolour and collage text on paper,16x12cm

As this week’s Illustration Friday topic is beard and I happen to be a watcher ofWheezywaiter videos (a beardlover if you will) I thought I should create something focused around Craig and his loverly beard.

I also then decided to add my favourite quote of his, because why not.

New Artwork- Pick A Card

Scan 5

Pick a Card, acrylic ink, collage and acetate prints on paper, 14.8 x 21 cm

This is a small piece inspired by meeting the lovely Damon Conlan in Shop in the Square,Wolverhampton last Friday. Card tricks were performed, ideas were exchanged, art was inspired.

The playing card with my name on it (card trick leftovers, the best kind of leftovers of course) was central to this piece, I also scanned the back of the card and used it as a small background for the magician.

You can follow Damon on Twitter and Facebook.

New Artwork: Moleskine Pages

stories

Stories, acrylic ink, collage, cut text and pigment ink pen in Moleskine sketchbook.

Cut text reads:

That is the time of the year,

full of fog,

and little

consciousness.

I looked forward to tea,

and stories

in front of cheap

success.

New Artwork: Learnalilgivinanlovin

learnalilgivinanlovin_scan

Learnalilgivinanlovin, ink, acrylic paint, text transfer, 20.5 x 21cm

The next piece done for my ongoing Gotye project.

With this piece I wanted to capture the overall feeling of the song- joyful and uplifting. I decided to put the complete lyrics of the song (repeated) in a heart as the central focus of the piece. The different silhouettes are bringing everything together within the piece itself.

I created the rainbow ink background to again reinforce the overall joyous and ‘colourful’ nature of the song. I also took inspiration for the official animated video of the song created by Shannon Cross-which can be watched here on Youtube.

Again I used SenshiStock (DA | Tumblr) stock images and poses as references for drawing the silhouettes.

Latest canvas commission.

Until the Future, acrylic ink, text image transfer, ink stamp, acrylic paint, cut paper on canvas, 59.4 x 42cm

The person who commissioned the piece wanted it focused around the colours of black and teal and various states of melting butterflies- representing the past, present and future.

I aged the look of he canvas and added various types of texts in the background- taken from my own scans of vintage books.

To bring the image and concepts together I also added the image of a clock face and a compass windrose to literally represent both time and direction.

Plane graveyards are sparking my interest more than usual recently. I’m hoping this will be the start of a decommissioned plane series, this is somewhat of a test piece that turned out better than I was expecting.
