31 Days of Collage #10

31 days of collage #10

|Collage 10 of 31|

Soar- digital collage using vintage magazine scans, vintage postcards, patterned paper scans, books scans, textures and stamps.

Today I wanted to play around with textures again, seeing how many elements I could overlap without overcrowding the overall image. The main aircraft image is from a 1937 aircraft race programme, I duplicated it at different sizes to see if I could effectively use a single image to create a dynamic subject matter.

New Artwork- Above

above artwork

above artwork framed

Above, mixed media- acrylic ink, tissue paper, ink transfer, ink pen on paper, 10.3 x 15.5cm

A quick little piece to use up a few scrap pieces of paper material- also I love Douglas DC2s and I haven’t drawn any for a while.

I also had a frame to fit this so I actually framed a piece straight away rather than it being rolled and put into art storage.

Crash Site Artworks

These are all the art pieces I created for the album Crash Site by CJ Kane. Each image in this post has a caption showing the title of the song the artwork is for.

I have created more detailed blog posts for the majority of the pieces, you can see these posts here.

The album is free to download from cj-kane.com and can also be listened to on Soundcloud.

Please check it out and support independent musicians/ artists.

New Artwork: Death of a Pilot

death of a pilot_withouttext

death of a pilot final

Death of a Pilot, acrylic ink, pigment ink pen on handmade paper, 20 x 20 cm

Piece for the fifth and final song on the album Crash Site. The pieces in this series were commissioned for a music album by C.J Kane.

The second image shows the image with text as it will be shown.

Ideas suggested for this piece included ‘airplane, in the sky or possibly crashing (similar to the cover, but different view, or colours, or plane, or angles etc) I was able to revisit some of my Masters artwork with piece- interesting to go back after a year.

With this images, C.J wanted a representation of a plane crash, of course, and I kept the similar fractured silhouette along with colours of bleeding/smoking ink.

I chose this angle for the plane as the cockpit windows and nose cone are easily recognisable- very important with fracturing a familiar, everyday object. I still wanted coherence between the image and representation of a a crashed plane and its connotations.

New Artwork: Crash Site

Crash Site, acrylic ink, pigment ink pen on paper, 20 x 20 cm

Piece for the cover of the album Crash Site. The pieces in this series were commissioned for a music album by C.J Kane.

The second image shows the image with text as it will be shown.

Ideas suggested for this piece included various parts of a crashed plane/ plane debris at an aircraft crash. Again, I was able to revisit some of my Masters artwork with piece- interesting to go back after a year.

With this images, C.J wanted a representation of a plane crash but from a strong viewpoint for the viewer. The piece had to represent and bring together the other artworks of the album and of course the songs themselves. I kept the similar fractured silhouette- this time the front of the crashed plane’s cockpit- along with colours of bleeding/smoking ink.

I also chose this angle for the plane as the cockpit windows are easily recognisable- very important with fracturing a familiar, everyday object. I still wanted coherence between the image and representation of a a crashed plane and its connotations.

Artwork Rejects

Two pieces of work that were not chosen for the final album pieces. These artworks illustrate the same song, as you can see, I decided to try different approaches to demonstrate the view from a commercial aircraft window.

Each piece is acrylic ink and paint on card and cleaned up/slightly re-arranged in photoshop.

I’m aiming to post a detailed blog post on each piece that was selected for the album and how they fit together as a project.

Plane graveyards are sparking my interest more than usual recently. I’m hoping this will be the start of a decommissioned plane series, this is somewhat of a test piece that turned out better than I was expecting.

Engine Deconstruction

Ink, acrylic paint on paper, 32x25cm

This is the start of another series focusing on specific iconic parts of commercial aircraft.

This first artwork is obviously based around the jet engine- with varying types of jet engine to follow in subsequent pieces.

I aim to select, splice, overlay, crop and edit together these parts to create a deconstructed series that I don’t actually have a name for yet.

As you can see I prefer working in series so I can research (both literary and visual) topics and construct a theme between the pieces.
