Textures- Works in Progress

 

Spent a couple of hours in Photoshop extracting and putting together some diagram, texture and collage pieces ready to transfer to paper. Many of these diagrams are taken from the British Library’s public domain albums on Flickr.

These will make up the base textures to a coupe of artworks that will be submitted to exhibitions over the next couple of weeks.

I’m planning to print, cut and paste some parts and image transfer some parts using both gel medium and acetate printing techniques. Once on the paper the textures will be drawn, painted and inked over.

Bewdley Arts and Crafts Weekend and Sketching

 

Was selling at the Bewdley Arts and Crafts weekend this weekend right next to the river.

Only managed to have time for one sketch while selling stuff Saturday- this is Bewdley Bridge or part of it anyway.

I definitely want to have sketch day there, it’s quite beautiful in the town and by the river.

I may still change a few things after the initial sketch stage. I’m not sure whether to disjoint the image/anatomy a little more, we shall see.

New Artwork- Work in Progress

I was asked to make a custom Tomb Raider birthday card. This is a rough sketch of the watercolour I’m going include in its design.

Both the recipient of the card and I prefer the earlier game models of Lara so this is based off those.

This will be an artwork in itself and scaled down to fit onto the 5 x 7” card.

Currently working on a few pieces using scraps from other projects- this is why I really don’t like to throw anything away.

The first is a box frame piece- trying to use some big pieces of my unfortunately smashed mug. I have a few more pieces that I will use in other ways too.

The last two are scraps of paper collaged with a light wash of gesso ready for some linework and ink. I’m still not entirely sure what they will finish up as.

 

Late Night Art Experimentation

Playing around with some art scraps and ink because I can’t sleep. Not quite sure what I’ll make this into but I’ll see how it goes.

Abstract on Fabric

 

Working on another small piece on fabric.

I’m aiming to keep this one simple and a little more abstract. Although I still also want to add some text to the piece.

So far it is only acrylic ink and paint on fabric.

Artwork in Progress: Physalis

 

I also started a piece in another project/series. These are a few layers of ink and gouache on linen for my next artwork based on a poem from Loqui by Greg Webster.

I am using Physalis for inspiration.

As you can see I need to add a lot of ink linework for it not to look like an inky mess.

I’ll add more details about the piece when it’s finished.

I started the next piece my Gotye Project,  here you can see it in various stages and layers. Hopefully I should finish this by the end of the week, a few more layers of ink and paint will bring the whole thing together. You can still see some of the rough sketch/planning lines underneath the ink.

I wish I had started this on thicker paper due to amount of ink I’ve added, however I like how it’s turning out so I’m not going to start over again now.

Artwork Planning and Stages: Hearts A Mess

The start of my planning for my Hearts A Mess piece. Originally I was playing around with the idea of two figures- possible reaching out for each other or at least one of them reaching out for the other. I was adamant to get an anatomical representation of a heart in the artwork, the one here is drawn with an ink pen and white acrylic ink- with reference to an old medical illustration found here at The Graphics Fairy. A great resource for out of copyright and vintage imagery.

Working out composition before cutting up the heart. The base ink on the paper was done a couple of months ago, it’s from a large piece of paper that I used ink and water on. I cut up the paper into smaller bits to use for different artwork, they’re working great as bases at the moment.

I added another layer of ink to the piece and managed to cut up the heart. I worked out the placement for this and have started stitching between the pieces.

I’m planning to add quite a bit more thread and also ink the figure separate  cut it out and add it to this…with more thread.

I’ll continue tomorrow.
