International Postcard Show 2016

postcard sightseeing

postcard together

1] Sightseeing, mixed media postcard, 6 x 4 inches

2] Together, mixed media postcard, 6 x 4 inches

Two postcards I sent off to Nottingham for Surface Gallery’s International Postcard Show. Both postcards have a base of paper ephemera- a mixture of train tickets and car park ticket stubs with acrylic ink, watercolour and ink pens. Together has found vintage anatomy images- the heart in the middle has also been cut apart and hand stitched together with black thread.

Will be nice to start off this year with an exhibition with artists from around the world.

Inktober/Drawlloween 2015 #24

inktober 24 skeleton

Inktober and Drawlloween day 24- Skeleton

I had some bits of left over wrapping paper that I wanted to use in this piece. The paper itself is kraft brown paper with metallic purple dots from Paperchase. As I scanned this in, the metallic purple hasn’t picked up well.

I may make a short clip showing it as I love the contrast of the purple against the monochrome drawing.

This piece is inked with Pilot V5 ink fineliner, Daler Rowney acrylic ink and small detail brushes.

Both are mixed media collages, 5.3 x 8.7cm

Some elements in these collages are from some postcards I bought from a vintage fair, some from vintage sites online.

Double Moleskine Page

double moleskine page

Mixed media double Moleskine page.

Sometimes just making a mark on paper, putting paint down, splashing ink around gets me out of a restrictive headspace.

Don’t be tempted to overthink the marks that turn your tiny inklings into vibrant, expanding ideas.

New Artwork- Faces

faces-mixed media artwork

Faces, mixed media on handmade paper, 14x21cm

I’m not quite sure where I was going with this- probably more of a warm up piece if anything. As you can see, I’m quite excited that next month is October.

New Artwork- Above

above artwork

above artwork framed

Above, mixed media- acrylic ink, tissue paper, ink transfer, ink pen on paper, 10.3 x 15.5cm

A quick little piece to use up a few scrap pieces of paper material- also I love Douglas DC2s and I haven’t drawn any for a while.

I also had a frame to fit this so I actually framed a piece straight away rather than it being rolled and put into art storage.

Playing with Packaging- Small Mixed Media Sculpture

Another Playing with Packaging piece- a small mixed media sculpture.

I hate throwing away interesting/nice looking packaging so I try to use it in some way. This is made from two cardboard boxes and one plastic container from Lily Lolo.

This piece includes layers of paint, ink, vintage imagery, flat back pearls, thread and cut text.
